Opera Composer FAQ
Who can use the Opera Composer?
Anyone can build a customized Opera Browser with the Opera Composer. You can upload your favorite images for buttons, backgrounds, skins, and design your own Splash (start-up) screen.
How much does it cost to create a new version?
It is absolutely free to join.
What do I need to prepare in advance to build my own Opera Composer version?
Every customization feature is optional, and you may prepare as few or as many as you wish. Right now, you can add your own buttons, splash screen, Bookmarks, Custom HTML content, skins, and background. For the skins and background, you can use your favorite image (all image formats are acceptable). For custom buttons and Splash screen, GIF is the required format. Please see our tutorial for more details.
How do the HTML tabs work?
If you have your own site, you can add a special HTML section in the Hotlist section of Opera. This means you can serve and add content directly into this special window in the browser. By adding a new tab, you can create a miniature HTML section where you can include valuable features such as e-mail login, news headlines, and promotions. See our tutorial for more details.
Is the Opera Composer available for other platforms than Windows?
Currently, you can only build your own custom version for the Windows Platform. We will soon offer the Opera Composer for other platforms. Please check back periodically.
Do I need any special plug-ins to create an Opera Composer version?
No. Since the Opera Composer is fully Web-based, a custom version can be created using any standards-compliant Web Browser on any platform. However, most of the explanations in our tutorial are Opera-related, and we recommend you use Opera 5.0 and higher to create a new Composer version.
How long does it take to build an Opera Composer version?
Using our tutorial, you can build your version in minutes or spend an entire day designing graphics and buttons. The new Composer version then becomes available for download as soon as the Opera Composer has completed the building process.
What kind of file do I receive when I have completed the Opera Composer?
Once the Opera Composer has built your version, you will be able to download an EXE file that initiates Opera's easy installation process.
How do I share this Opera Composer version with others?
You can make the Opera EXE file available on your Web site for easy download, place it on a CD for distribution, or place it on your company or organization network for easy download. Just as they would download any other software from the Web.
Can I create an Opera Composer version in as many languages as I want?
No. If you choose many languages you will have to download one file for each language. You may choose only one language, download the file and then download the modules for the languages you want.
Do I have to create my own buttons and icons?
You can create your own buttons or search the Web for Opera buttons and splash screens that have already been made.
Can I add my contacts?
Not yet. The current version of the Opera Composer lets you include bookmarks but not contacts. This feature should be available soon.
Can I use the Opera Composer for commercial purposes? For example, distributing Opera with my Web services?
Yes, you can.
